Protecting and representing you during regulatory investigations
All businesses have a regulatory framework. A regulatory case occurs when there is an allegation of breach of these duties or obligations and a failure to meet the legal standard. This can result in criminal offences which can lead to criminal investigations and prosecution by authorities in criminal courts. A criminal record creates a negative reputation for you and your business which can have dire consequences.
Our lawyers can provide you with advice and assistance on how best to deal with investigations.
Important things to consider:
- Investigations are likely to involve interviews with company representatives conducted under the powers of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1974.

Support and guidance with every stage
We can offer our services in a number of areas. This includes bribery and corruption, operating without a licence, food industry regulation, environmental law prosecutions, trading standards and health and safety investigations.
If you’re under investigation you’ll usually receive a letter from the investigating authority. You’ll usually have to attend a meeting or appointment for an interview under caution. The letter may indicate what legislation you’ve breached. It’s important to seek legal advice at this stage because it is similar to a police interview.
An investigation can lead to a successful prosecution and company directors can receive a criminal record and/or possible disqualification from acting as a director. Worst cases bring a prison sentence.
